Foods That Improve Brain Health

If you have never heard of BDNF then listen up because you really need to know this. BDNF is a protein in the brain that improves brain function and lowers the risk of mental disease. In fact, there is research supporting those with Alzheimer’s and dementia having severely low BDNF levels.

BDNF helps 1) protect and repair brain cells, 2) increase the growth of new brain cells, and 3) improve learning, memory and mood.  Unfortunately, BDNF decreases as we age. Yep, another factor of the biology of aging we need to accept. Or do we?

It is actually fairly easy to increase BDNF levels in the brain. Exercise does the trick as does certain foods such as:

  • extra virgin olive oil

  • blueberries

  • turmeric

  • salmon

  • eggs

  • green tea

However, there is a new player in the game that is definitely worth mentioning - Coffee Berry! This gem is the flesh of the berry that surrounds the coffee bean. Traditionally, the coffee bean is extracted for roasting and the flesh of the berry is discarded. However, because coffee berry has been shown to have these amazing benefits like increasing BDNF in the brain, it is now being saved and used specifically for brain health purposes.

So, now that you are “in the know”, go get your daily fix of coffee berry! Get out and exercise daily or eat a few of the foods I listed above at least 3-4 times per day to ensure you get enough of the BDNF boosting benefits. If you think you need some extra assistance, try one of my favorite products, BerryCaff™ Energy from Douglas Labs. It is an awesome tasting powder with a concentrated form of coffee berry that I have been using since it hit the market. I have read the research to support the claims and it is valid. This stuff works! I even have my Mom using it ever single day! I like to add it to water because I get bored with drinking plain water sometimes. It tastes amazing! Check it out HERE at the eNRG Store.

Whatever you choose to boost your BDNF levels, do it now and be consistent with your routine!
